District Kerewa Golfe de Papouasie Papouasie Nouvelle-Guinée Provenance : - The Jolika Collection de Marcia & John Friede. Rye, New York Ce rare Gope se caractérise par son décor inhabituel. De part et d’autre, un ensemble de carrés de couleur alternant le rouge et le blanc, encadre un personnage masculin. Le visage est stylisé à sa plus simple expression : une tête, des yeux et une bouche dentelée. La partie du corps est représentée par une colonne vertébrale sur laquelle reposent les bras, ainsi qu’un nombril et en partie basse les jambes et le sexe. On either side the central male is framed by alternating red and white colored squares. Though highly stylized, the character's facial features remain evident, with well defined eyes and jagged mouth. The body is also made apparent by a vertebral element that supports the arms.
