Art Massim, reproduit page 86 n°42 Les cannes sont d’une grande rareté dans la région Massim, ce qui ne permet pas avec certitude de les situer géographiquement. Cependant le décor gravé de cette canne représentant des calmars, que l’on retrouve sur les linteaux des maisons de chef ainsi que sur le décor des boucliers des îles Trobriand, nous fait penser à une fabrication provenant de ces îles. In the 20th century walking sticks were made in the Massim region for sale to tourists. However, there is evidence that staffs were also made for local use. There is some patina at the top of this staff and its design also suggests it may have been made for local use. Harry Beran advises that this is the only staff of this design known to him.
